2007 Bible Quiz Finals at Roberts Wesleyan College

Indianapolis (Aldersgate), IN takes top spot.
(L-R): Gerry, Jonathan and Stephen Coates.

After having studied Acts this past year, about 680 youth Bible quizzers and coaches on 112 teams from around the United States and Taiwan gathered at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York on June 25-29, 2007 for the Free Methodist Bible Quiz Finals. The team from Indianapolis (Aldersgate), IN was crowned grand champion for winning the Senior Teen Veteran A division. (Additional results are given below.)

Chapel services were a great time of spiritual encouragement and challenge, and the speakers included Bishop Richard Snyder, Rev. Linda Adams, and RWC President John Martin. Five persons (who have lived godly lives as they have applied the scripture they learned through quizzing) were inducted into the Bible Quizzing Hall of Fame. These included Bishop Richard Snyder (Rock Hill, NC); Jay Vincent (New Castle, IN); Mark Scandrett (Alton, IL); Penny Norton (Brockport, NY); and Dolores Bailes (formerly of Georgetown, PA).

Many of the teens testified to God's working in their lives as this past year they have studied the scriptures. During the communion / testimony service, quizzers testified for over an hour about how God had worked in their lives. Some shared of God's help and guidance through spiritual struggles and others spoke of recent decisions to trust in Christ. Scripture and confession and tears were a part of a number of testimonies. Several groups stayed for prayer following the communion service. For our final (Friday) chapel, Eric Young led in a concert of prayer, and about 30 youth responded to the invitation at the close. Approximately 40 youth at Finals had memorized all of quizzing material this past year.

Several seminars were offered for the training of our leadership to be more effective in their ministry to the youth. The executive leadership team of Eric Young, Paul Stackhouse, and Mike Hopper led a ministry staff of about 65 volunteers. Quizzing competitions were held simultaneously in 48 locations in the Pearce Memorial Free Methodist Church and across the college campus. Many pictures of the event and details about the tournament are available on the Bible quizzing web site at www.fmquizzing.org.

Roberts Wesleyan College provided many special activities for the quizzers, and arranged a fantastic international banquet for the closing awards ceremony. The college music team provide uplifting music for the worship experiences. Roberts Wesleyan College announced a $2,000 college scholarship for each quizzer who attends 4 years of college at Roberts. In one service, an offering of over $1,600 was received to help with the development of Bible quizzing in Taiwan.

Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon is the material for the coming season.
